Giant Inflatable Ball

A giant inflatable ball can come in a few varieties that have several different functions.  The first is a giant beach ball which can run as big is ten feet in diameter.  You may have seen one of these at an outdoor rock concert, sporting event, or at a tailgating party.  They are often thrown around at large stadiums and make their way through the crowd as it gets bounced around from person to person.

There are also vinyl mega balls that come in five and six foot diameters that can be used in interactive group games that involve rolling, kicking, and bouncing the ball.  The opportunities with this type of ball are endless and you can use them in many different group games and activities.

Another type of giant inflatable ball is a human sphere.  These are sort of like a giant hamster ball where you can step inside and roll around by walking and pushing it forward as you go.  You can have races in them or even wrestling matches.  These types of balls are like the ones you may have seen on the tv game show “American Gladiators.”  They are usually made of clear vinyl that is heat sealed and airtight, and is usually seven feet in diameter.  You use your hands and feet to rotate and push the ball forward as you race against an opponent, or just for fun.

Another version of the human sphere is made so that you can walk on water with it.  These are similar to the ones used for racing, but they are made for the water and are usually referred to as water walking balls or water spheres.  To use them, you open up the zipper, get inside, and then blow it up.  You close the zipper and then you can walk, jump, roll, and float on the surface of the water.

A large ball is also used in the game pushball, where two teams attempt to push the ball across a goal.  The ball is 6 feet in diameter, but is usually heavier than a normal inflatable ball due to a heavier bladder encased inside the vinyl ball.

Finally, another version of the giant inflatable ball is used in an activity known as Zorbing.  Also known as globe riding or sphereing, this activity was started by the Zorb company in 1995 in New Zealand.  There are a few official Zorb locations around the world, including Roturua, New Zealand and Pigeon Forge, Tennessee, as well as Slovenia, Ireland, Guam, Thailand, Argentina, and the Czech Republic.

A Zorb has two connected layers of flexible plastic that are connected.  Zorbing can be done dry in a harness, where there is air cushioning in between the two layers of plastic.  It can also be done wet without a harness where there is water in between the two layers of plastic.

The Zorb company has official locations which are signed up through a code of safe operations.  You may find similar copycat operations where you can roll in a Zorb-like ball on a course, but if it is not an official location, it does not fall under their safety code and may possibly be unsafe.

As you can see, there are many different varieties of the giant inflatable ball.  There are tons of fun activities and unique games to play.  If you are looking for a fun game for your kids or even a new and thrilling activity for yourself, you can surely find one among all the possibilities discussed here.  Let your imagination go wild and have a ball!
